How it started…

Sheila and Nicole met in 2011 through a mutual friend and immediately became best friends. We share a deep love of nature and Yoga (not just posture practice, but yoga philosophy in its entirety!) and wanted to be able to connect both passions together.

We found ourselves searching for a group of like minded people that got together to hike and backpack. We couldn't find one so we created it! Deciding, "if we build it, they will come!" we created a Facebook group called Wanderers. We shared gear questions, advice and experience and began to meet up with random members of the Facebook group. A community of people who also shared a love of hiking and yoga began to form.

In early 2016, we began training for our first multi-day backpacking trip to Havasu Falls in Grand Canyon. We had no idea what we were doing, but we knew we could figure it out together. Equipped with the knowledge gained and shared within our community, our first year of consistent hiking took us to the mountains of Colorado, all over Alaska, Sri Lanka, The Appalachian Trail, Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon, Northern Arkansas and all over Missouri.

Through our weekly hikes, our weekend escapes, and our week long adventures, we became happier, stronger and better people. We received feedback from the community that others "wished they could join us" but were too afraid or nervous to take the plunge into the magic of the woods. Through Yoga Hikes STL we seek to fill a void in our community and let others be filled up with the peace and joy that yoga and nature bring. We are thrilled to add Yoga and Hiking together and share it with the St Louis Community.
